Key West New Year's Eve

"A Party from Duval Street to the Seaport"

Key West New Year's Eve on Duval Street
Top: Workers prepare for this year's celebration. Below, the crowd on lower Duval Street counts down the final seconds of 2005 as a huge conch shell is lowered atop Sloppy Joe's.

Once again the Key West New Year's Eve celebration will be shown live on CNN.

No doubt about it...Key West love's to party. And what's a better excuse than New Year's Eve?

Three different gathering spots offer their own unique version of the time honored tradition of lowering something special as the clock winds away the last seconds of the year.

Your choices are:

  1. to see a big conch shell lowered from atop Sloppy Joe's Bar...a crowded and boistrous affair
  2. to see a Pirate Wench lowered from the mast of a schooner in the Historic Seaport
  3. or, (CNN's favorite) to see Sushi, a local drag queen celeb, lowered from a Duval Street balcony, riding a huge high-heeled shoe.

Whatever your choice, we at Key West Travel Guide want to wish everyone a New Year filled with joy, coconuts, a nice tan, good health, laughter, and wonderment.

Oh...and peace on Earth (come on World...make believe you just booked a vacation to Key West)

Many Key Westers and visitors are doing the same thing...running, hiding, & escaping. As the saying goes, we seceded where others failed. America's only Caribbean island is home to free spirit, stunning scenery, and a live and let live attitude.
