Photo of the Day – 2017 Partial Solar Eclipse in Key West

Using pinhole technology, the 2017 eclipse provided the ultimate font for remembering the astrological event.

Although Key West didn’t experience “totality,” when the moon completely obscures the sun, the island did experience a 77% solar eclipse. A pinhole camera is the safest way to observe the extraordinary event, yet we wanted to make it especially memorable for the island – so we created an array of pinholes spelling out “KEY WEST 2017 ECLIPSE”.  This photo was taken at the peak of the Key West eclipse, at 2:57pm on August 21, 2017.  Each pinhole yielded a tiny crescent sun.
