Boutique restaurant off Duval Street serving fresh Key West seafood with inventive recipes appealing to the modern “foodie” palate

Thirsty Mermaid is a relatively new addition to Key West’s food scene, and it is a welcomed addition.  One could argue that there is a new wave of Key West chefs and restaurateurs in the island re-inventing and expanding Key West cuisine.  Thirsty Mermaid is definitely a member of the new renaissance.

Located one block off Duval Street, the small restaurant will make you feel like you’ve discovered a hidden gem.

The decor is modern, graphic, and inviting, and the menu is a nicely curated selection of fresh seafood, local flavor, and a “foodie” sensibility.

Both times we visited we were more than impressed at the quality of the dishes and ingredients.  Bountiful salads, a near-perfect snapper fish sandwich, and mouth-watering appetizers had the table nodding in agreement that Thirsty Mermaid deserves a place in the “Our Favorites” section of Key West Travel Guide.  Congrats!

The kind and friendly chef/owners make an extra-effort so that delicious, satisfying dishes come out of the kitchen.

This newer restaurant and bar has quickly found a very dedicated local following thanks to a flavorful menu of smoked bar-b-que, fresh fish sandwiches, entrees, and a creative menu of burgers and sandwiches. Popular items include their original “Thunder Thighs”, a hickory-smoked preparation of chicken thighs, the sliced brisket – particularly good as a sandwich or taco, and their pulled pork. Fish items on the menu are the freshest available and all come from locally caught fish.

And if you have been out fishing in Key West, the kitchen offers to “cook your catch.”  Bring the cleaned fish you caught and The Salty Angler will cook it for you, grilled or blackened, for $11 per pound.

The bar itself is a friendly, laid-back atmosphere, with live music often performed, including regular shows by Key West’s most talented Grateful Dead jam band, The Happy Dog (usually Thursday nights and not to be missed).

Gourmet dinners, outstanding brunch, terrific decor at this German fine-dining restaurant.

Located on Duval Street, Martin’s Restaurant, serves some of the finest dishes in Key West.

Now in a new location on Duval Street, this wonderful restaurant has a stylish decor with lovely garden and indoor seating.

German-island cuisine by an excellent chef who bakes the bread each morning. Outstanding dishes include the weiner snitzel, yellowtail snapper, and beef wellington.

Brunch is now offered Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and serves possibly the best eggs benedict (and it’s variations) in Key West.

The former location of Martin’s Restaurant, at 413 Appelrouth Lane, has plans to re-open as a wine and cheese bar.
